How often and under what conditions you you throw painted blades on spinnerbaits?

 Let's talk water temps and clarity, and blade sizes and types of blades, and even time of day. Thanks.

About the only time I throw painted blades are in muddy water and if it's cloudy I'll trow white blades sometimes. If I was night fishin I might also but never really do.

I throw painted blades all the time. I have found that when fishing ultra clear water (8' visibility or more) the bass get spooky when a flashy spinnerbait is ripped by them, the key word being ripped. In clear water I don't want the fish to get a good look at my bait. I rip it as fast as I can just under the surface.  I also use hand hammered bronze blades when doing this. This works well for Largemouth but it works even better for the more aggressive Spotted Bass.

Now, when I am fishing slow in heavy brush or in colored water I will go with something with some flash. The fish needs to be able to pick up the bait better and the flash will cut through the water better than any color.  I adjust the retrieve speed according to the water clarity.

Seems like I've gone through years where I fished lots of whites and chartreuse blades and caught some really big bass, but the last couple of years I've gone to the more standard gold and silvers.

I did start using the painted in colder murky waters around 53 - 65 degrees in spring  for largemouth with great results several years ago, and still use white and char. any time I'm smallie fishing  up northout of habit. Thanks for your feedback.

When I was up north on the river awhite with white blades was one of my favorite lures for catching SM bass.  I have tried it down here and not done much on it, but then I have not done much on anything LOL
