Trimming Weed Guard on Jig

Recommended Posts

I have read that you should trim the weed guard even with the bend in the hook.

If that is so, do you trim it even when it is in its normal position? Or do you push it over until it contacts the hook and trim it even, which makes it stick up an 1/8th of an inch or more above the bend when it is in its upright (normal) position?

Slightly unrelated question - do you flatten the barb on your jigs?

Thanks as always!

I cut my weed guard to where, when ii run my finger, with a little force, over my weed gaurd until I almost hook myself.  Basically cut it a 1/8 inch above the hookpoint.

KVD trims his parallel with the straight part of the hook from the point to where the bend starts. You are just cutting an angle in the guard not making it shorter. In other words draw a line from the very end of the strand closest to the hook point to the front of the guard that is parallel with the line created by the straight part of the hook from the point to where the bed starts.
