Help with soft plastics...

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, I've made a few posts in the past week and thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Jeff from Pittsburgh, PA. I've only been into bass fishin for about 2 years. I would say that I'm still a beginner but I enjoy going out every chance I get. Also, I've found some outstanding info on these boards so far.

I'm planning on heading out this weekend and working with some soft plastics. I've got some Senkos, Powerworms, Shadbody Roboworms, and I may get some Horny Toads.

The lake I'm fishing is small, 101 acres, the clarity is usually about 2 feet and I think the water temp will be around 65-70. There are several laydowns in 2-3 ft of water, some grass in 3-8 ft, a couple of small stream tributaries.

Just wondering what type of cover I should be targeting with which bait and what type of presentation.

Thanks for any help.  8)

Hi Jeff,

Based on what you've said, bearing in mind that I'm no expert, I would not concentrate on associating a certain cover with a certain plastic. Rather, concentrate on the cover you feel is likely to hold bass, then via trial and error use various baits to determine which they're willing to hit.

For example, if they're in a topwater mood, buzzing the Horny Toad could produce in any cover you mentioned.

Good luck.

Jeff,

Marty is totally correct.

Take along a number of different sizes, types and colors of plastics and see what the fish want.

Senkos are always good as are Zoom curley tail worms.

A 4 inch worm can produce good results in a pond depending on the size of the bass.  If there are lunkers in the pond then a larger bait size can be utilized.

Good luck and let us know how you did and what you did.
