Need good ideas.

Featured Replies

I'M GOING TO MAKE A FISHING SHOW AND JUST WANTED TO GET SOME IDEAS ON WHAT YOU LOOK FOR AS ANGLERS. I CURRENTLY HAVE ABOUT 10 SUBJECTS MY PARTNER AND I WILL COVER. BECAUSE WE ARE IN SOUTH TEXAS WE'LL COVER FRESH AND SALT WATER. IT'S GOING TO BE ON PUBLIC ACCESS TO SEE IF WE CAN GENERATE A BUZZ AND IF NOT, WE CAN SAY WE HAD FUN TRING.

                           THANKS  WGF

Well, I would think that you would need to narrow down which fishing demographic that you are going to reach out to.

Certainly, you will not have enough time to cover every species in both fresh and salt water that all anglers could persue.  That would take a long time, especially in covering everything that an angler would need to know for each species.

Once that is done, I would do what the fish are relating to during that season.  If you are fishing spawning crappies, show the folks how to fish for the spawning crappies on that specific body of water, and include specific locations, lures, depths, etc.

If you are able to do that, and do so in a fun and informative way, then you will be well on your way.

Best of luck in this!

THANKS JOHN FOR THE INPUT. AS FAR AS THE FISH WE TARGET, THATS NOT A PROBLEM. MY PARTNER IS A BASS FISHERMAN AND I'M THE SALTWATER GUY CONVERTTING TO BASS FISHING. WE PLAN ON COVERING THE FOLLOWING TOPICS

1. TARGET FISH

2. BAITS

3. TACKLE

4. SEASON (BEST TIMES)

5. LOCATIONS

6. WEATHER

7. LOG KEEPING

I WANT TO KNOW WHAT ELSE WILL GET YOUR ATTENTION SO YOU MIGHT WATCH IT AGAIN.

Are ya'll going to "fish for brown trout with fly rods"  one week and for Redfish the next week or like Infisherman and have a weekly mix?

Numbers 1 thru 3 could be shows in themselves.

You could include Maps, GPS and Sonars both reading and buying.  Radios might be good topic to mention since you are discussing saltwater.  Reel and equipment maintanece.   We do have a show on here that is done by the local TV station and it is pretty good.  It is shot on area lakes and normally about a week behind, unless it is a rerun.  That makes a lot of difference since the conditions are about the same.

Here's an idea of a show that I would like to see.  I would love to see a show similar to the article in Bass Master Mag " A day on the lake".  One day of bass fishing on a new lake every week.  And use the time line format.  Show the approach of how that person finds fish and covers the water.  Good weather and bad.  Just like most of us fish.  Show them catching fish and not catching fish.  Even if the person is not catching you could still see the approach and what they are using and doing to try and find fish.  No more private ponds.  I think that's why I liked watching Ultimate Bass Fishing Challenge, so much.  They didn't go out and slay the big fish everytime.

Just a few pennys in the pot....

I think you have great ideas on what you plan to cover. Since you have asked for more ideas here, I think you could ask an even more helpful question.... what do we NOT want to see.

The reason I don't watch too many fishing shows is because I feel they lack detail and include too much BS. Another thing is jokes. Man, I got jokes... don't need to hear more. That is the main thing that gets me about almost alllllll programing in sports and in general. People just try to be over funny way to much IMO. Hopefully this can get more answers in the thread. Like I said, seems you have the ground set for a good show, now some ideas on what people don't like about some programming.

What I do want to see on the show, FISH IN THE BOAT! Maybe if it were just  the outro to your commercials,  show about 5-8 hooksets. I really think that would keep people tuned in, it shows you know what you are doin, without explaining!

Hope everything goes well, good luck.

Local places to fish; the tackle to use; and the places to either fish from the bank or public boat ramps to launch your boat.

Cost cutting methods and other tips just like Uncle Homer Circle and the pro's tips in Bassmaster magazine.

Free prizes or gift certificates for local tackle shops or Wal-Mart.

Actual places to fish on local lakes and ponds, i.e., if on the bank, fish by the large oak tree; if in a boat fish this creek or line up with the big white house on the hill, etc.

Give everyone a local flavor to go out and catch something.

To survive on todays TV you will need something the other shows do not have...You should test different baits and show the ones that do work and the ones that DONT work and why. Also try baits and other products from small, indivisual companys. the big corporations get enough attention as it is.
