Early morning fishing ??

Featured Replies

I know that during the heat of summer, the early morning is a really good time to fish, does that hold true into the fall as well?  We just had a pretty strong cold front move through on Wednesday that dropped daytime temps to the 50s and night time temps to the upper 30s/low 40's.  I really want to get some fishing tomorrow, but with the air temp in the 40s and the recent cold front, I am wondering if it will be a waste of time.

It's never a waste of time to go fishing!

I went out to Kill Creek this morning and did fairly well.  Caught around 10 in three hours and most of them were buried in the grass.  I also caught a few on a crankbait and flukes just outside the visible grass line.  Dress warm!!!!!  I'm going to Gardner tomorrow and I'll  be out at Kill Creek on Sunday.  Tight lines!!!

I knew I would catch grief about the "waste of time" comment.  :-[ What i really meant it to mean was is it going to be a casting practice or will there be a decent probability of actually catching fish :)

KU, what were you throwing?

I was pitching horny toads and YUM Dingers into pockets in the grass.  Then just on the outside of the visible grass line I was throwing Super Flukes and a crankbait.

Did you happen to get water temp?  I may do some wading in the morning to get off the shore.

Sure didn't.  I am going to guess somewhere in the mid to low 60's.  I accidentally stepped in the water while taking the boat out.  It was a little chilly, but it wasn't imbearable.

If the wind ain't blowing I'll be out there as soon as the gates open at 6:00.  I'll either be in my dad's Trailblazer that you can see under the "Let's See Your Boats" under the "Bass Boating" section or in my buddy's red S-10 truck.  If the wind is blowing over 10 mph though, I might have to go someplace else.  That lake has no cover from the wind and my little boat gets blown around pretty good.  Hopefully I'll see you out there!!
