Fishing through leaves?

Featured Replies

Okay, now that fall is here, the little pond next to my house is covered with leaves, but I can see the bass popping on the surface.  I try to throw a topwater bait, but within a few turns of the reel, I'm hung up with leaves...any suggestions for "leaf-less" top-water fishing?

Try a Boss Moss, or any topwater lure with the hooks turned up.

Try the weedless frog or rat baits.  They should work well for ya.

Don't forget a soft jerkbait, it can be fished below the surface or you can let it sit on leaves.

I'm with Will on this one.  Especially this time of year.  Super-fluke and really let it drop deep once in awhile.

Oh, it sounds like that pound could be really fun to fish right now.  I'd also through some kind of plastic hopped across the top of the leaves, and then just let it fall though sometimes.  The same thing happens to a cove in my local pond.  It can be one of my favorite spots to fish because the conditions only last for around 2 weeks each year.

I kinda snickered when I saw this thread because I was battling leaves and 30mph winds today ;D My fish I caught on a jig and a zoom super hog. I was fishing creek channels and laydowns ended up sticking a nice 4lb bass and one a hair over 6 lbs. Boat control was interesting. I was even getting leaves on spinnerbaits >:(

That dude even catches the leaves man,.......ain't nothin' he can't stick..............

work with the leaves alof of the times the leaves arent hurtin much you will still get the response you needed depending on what the fish are looking for.  The sound and viberation is still coming off just the appearance is a little different.  At this time of year the fish will eat alot of thing they normally would think twice about.  So just continue your retreive with the leave on see how it works for ya ive got alot like that.

I can see that you like topwaters and who can blame you.  I recently bought a weedless "spook" type bait.  a boze zz walker, it's a quality bait (owner hooks), and weighted towards the rear.  anyway, it walks the dog well and stays pretty weedless.  I'll bet it would work the leaves almost as well as Chris  ;D
