i just have a few general questions about the split shot rig.  is it kinda like a downsized carolina rig?  how far away from the bait do the put the weight? and lastly how do you fish it?  drag it, hop it, shake it then let it sit, or what?

Yep, it is basically a downsized carolina rig. I usually rig my bait 12-16" from the weight, so not as far as a carolina rig. It is a finnesse presentation so I like to lift it up so the lure will get off the bottom then just let it sink, and let it sit. If they don't like that then I will try dragging it. Real subtle bite, and be patient.
