They just dont seem to bite

Featured Replies

Ive been fishing this small pond for a few years now with alotta luck using a 4" Red Shad Power Worm. This year i go back and i can't seem to be getting a single bite.

You might want to check with the owner of the pond to make sure that there is still fish in the pond.

You might want to try something completely new that the fish haven't seen before like using creature baits, swimbaits, or large 10in + worms. It might be that the fish are used to seeing the same types and sizes of soft plastics, or they might have been caught so many times that they won't hit those 4in worms anymore. This could result in a bunch of lunker bass swimming around that seem to be "uncatchable." I have fished small ponds before and most of them are overfished with the same lures which are plastic worms. As a result, I have seen tons of 10lb plus bass swimming around but I couldn't catch them, so I put on a big 12in worm and caught one of the big ones. You should try it.

For a small pond situation, I would dig up some nightcrawlers and work them at different depths and in different areas of the pond.  Except for carp and such, you'll find out pretty quick what's swimming around in there.

Slow roll a spinnerbait.  If that doesn't work, make a few casts with a crankbait with a slow retreive.  Right after that, throw the same crank and burn it.  The first few casts get the bass' attention and the burning crankbait makes him mad enough to bite it.
