Lazer pointers and fish reaction

Recommended Posts

Title sounds odd doesnt it? My friend showed me some time ago,if you shine a red lazer pointer into a fish tank the fish will go nuts. He used his Tiger Oscar in a 55 gallon tank as an example. Sure enough, the fish aggressively struck and lunged at the dot the lazer made in the tank.

I have a 55 gallon tank with some Green Sunfish and a Hybrid Sunfish and decided to try it. The Sunfish went into a frenzy attacking the red dot. The lone Bluegill  in my Girfriends fish tank went crazy as well.

What could cause a fish to react like this and how could this be put into use when fishing. If you all have aquariums and have aggressive fish try it out,it will surprise you the way they act.

Just a personal thought but iam firm in the beleif that the color red is great for triggering a feeding reaction especailly if the fish are schooling. I ussually look for lures with red eyes.

In the most recent bassmaster there is a guide about new lures coming.  One of them emits a red laser.  Im wondering how that light works in murky water.

I was on another talk forum were something similar came up. There was a post about a guy was fishing along some rocks for walleyes and not catching a thing when down the shore from him a guy cuaght his limit in no time. He started talking to this guy and he ended up letting him use his special lure. The lure was a battery operated rapala that had red lighted eyes. Theres gotta be something to these red lights. Anyone know where I can get some rapalas with red eyes?

BoonDocks, I keep a good eye on Rapalas web site for new stuff and I have never seeb it. I would buy it, if it works then great but if not, h#$$ I would have an ornament on the tree I lked ;). Personally though the idea is sound. The bright red is a good indcator of blood, and therefore easy meal.

Why was my post removed?  I am in no way affiliated with Laserlure.  I found thier site in one of the Bass mags, called them up and ordered the lure.

I think they are good lures, a good company, a good concept and fun to use.

Peter, I also went to the Rapala website after reading the guys post to see If I couldn't get my hands on one. Didn't see one either. The guy made it sound like it happened quite a while ago. You never know, it could have been any old crankbait. Up in this neck of the woods I'v heard many people refer to any slender looking crank as a Rapala. Kinda like Kleenix instead of tissue. Further down the thread from this guys post, another fella chimed in and said he seen an add on Ebay were a guys was advertising that he made lures with fiber optic red eyes.

"Lazer Lures" seems like another expensive gimmick to me. If I can catch fish on lures without lazers then why do I need a lure with one? To make the fishing easier or less challenging? Where is the fun in that? Just sounds like another lure made to catch more fisherman than fish to me...probably ranks right up there with the Helicopter Lure, the Kicktail Lure, and all the other "as seen on TV" lures. :P

I guess the Cat is out of the bag!

Try bed fishing with a laser pointer. Pitch the bait in the bed, and shine a laser pointer on your bait. Wiggle the light and hang on. They can't stand it. No more circling the bed and making several casts. Its game over! ;)

Well it all sounds like a mess of as sen on tv as well. But you know I look at it this way, there was most likely a fellow working in his garage on this lure, he being a fanatical angler decided to build himself a lure and tick it out. So who knows this could just be one mans dream, or one companies gimmick. I will stick with one man's dream it makes things more pleasant.
