catching big bass on the beds

Featured Replies

hey guys back home in georgia we use to get in the shallow areas of those lake where the bass were bedding and i had one about six pounds one time just pick up my worm by the tail and then drop it on the edge of the bed. so then i tried a trick that my dad told me. the next day i went back and i inserted a piece of an alkaseltzer cold medicine tablet into my worm. i pitched it in the bed and the tablet started fissing. it just drove that bass plumb crazy she grabbed it and swallowed it. i have used this trick a few other times and it works about 9 out of 10 times.

I've never tried this with a worm or for bedding fish at all for that matter, but it does work well with tubes.

I will fish for prespawn bass but, I do not fish for bass on the beds, at least not intentionally.

i can perfelctly understand that but its just too much fun catching those babies while they are ornery and full of eggs i always turn em lose anyway but i will admit it does put stress on a fish and i might not should do it.

I don't think fishing for spawning bass is a crime or anything. It is my decision not to do it, thats all. Everyone has that choice. I am only speaking for myself. I did it years ago and caught some big fish in doing so. I am just older now and chose not to fish for them on beds. Its just too easy and while I am not so sure of how much its stresses them to be caught I just chose to let them proliferate in peace. I am not going to knock anyone that does this nor do I support it. Its up to each fisherman to make that decision. Good luck. :)
