In a slump

Featured Replies

I think I am in a slump, I fished my first turny about 2 weeks ago and ened up with 1 bass about 8 inches long... :) lol

Been fishing several times since then and nothing :( I just can't figure out what the deal is.

Any help getting out....

Keep fishing and fish with your confidence baits!!!  Everybody goes through times like that...  Go back and look at some of Fish Chris's posts (not the ones where he catches hawgs)...  the one's where he fishes 14 hours a day and doesn't catch anything!!!  Just keep at it and things will fall into place!  ;)

When I get into a slump, the first thing I do is go to confidence baits, as mentioned earlier.  The second thing I do it fish like a maniac, warp speed times 7 because I am frustrated and am looking for a bite.  So I put the select fire button on my reel to full auto and giver her hell.....this is completely unproductive of course....but I seem to do it anyhow.

I then get to a point where I say ok.....tuupid....slow down, concentrate on presentation, and enjoy the water.  Look around the lake for signs of feeding, try a new area( as we as humans are as predictable as anything)  we tend to say well they were here last week, then refuse to leave a no longer productive area.

Finally things just come back together some how as the great gods of bass smile on us once again.

I believe this is something that noob, and guide, go through time to time.

Keep the chin up, slow down, and use your favorite baits!

Best wishes, and let us know when you get that biggun!

You are not in a slump.  You are in cold water.

I am sure you will be nailing them just as soon as the water temperature starts to rise.

But keep on trying. That big 8 pound lunker is just sitting there waiting for you!

Sam you are prob correct. Although it has been in the 70's + here all week and now the next few days will be in the 80 's .... The temp of the water is ranging 58 to 62...

I didn't get out there today, but tomorrow I am heading to deep clear lake.

Your water temp is fine.

Given it, and the time of year your bass are no doubt preparing to spawn

If you are familiar with the lake, go to known spawning areas and fish the deeper water adjacent to these areas.  If not, go to likely spawning areas.   hard clean bottom in the back of sunny coves would be ideal.

Fish your confidence lures and you'll get em.

good luck and have fun

Gonna sound wierd, but my IPod was the best piece of tackle I ever bought.  Instead of concentrating on my presentation and overdoing it, thinking about how I haven't caught anything in the last couple days, or burning my bait back to the boat out of frustration, I just sit and enjoy the music and my environment while fishing.  Usually, that is enough to inadvertently slow down my presentation enough to produce strikes.
