once the hard water goes away

Featured Replies

Hey once the $%&^$% Ice melts here I am going to work on 2 more techniques. Fishing the Fork kind of let me know I have to learn to become a little more proficient with a few more presentations I am going to continue to work on crank baits and my plastics but its time to learn how to throw a jig and spinnerbaits. Soon as ice out I m also going to go to the Members challange too.

Muddy,

When something keeps me off the water, I'm known to hang out at the motel pool practicing casts, testing new cranks to see if they run true, checking out the action that a rod may impart to my baits.    I check for sink rates on different set ups.    I check out how a new swim baits swims, or how a spinner bait falls.

The most important thing to me is bait placement, accuracy.     Putting your bait tight on the stump the first time is key.     A cast that splashes down a foot an half short can spook a fish, where as one on his head may cause the reaction bite.

So when fishing is not possible, practice presentations, learn new baits.

Matt.

Very good points Matt.

I also run lures in a pool lol.

10' of ice left around the entrance to the main back cove as of 2pm today :)  (cough) think I caught a bug today ;)

Good advise from Matt!  Make the most of any situation, there's always room to improve.
