best after hard rain tactic?

Featured Replies

well its been pouring here all day and night again. everything is flooding again and im still planning on taking the new boat out tomorrow to use my new all terrain 65lb motor i just installed. what is the best way of getting fish after a day or so of hard rain. im not sure if the lake will be muddy or not....

After a rain is usually tough and will usually pile fish up deep in structure (if the rain was bad and with a frontal movement).  I reach for soft plastics and jigs and do a little dead sticking and shaking on days like that.  Of course, don't neglect your lipless cranks and spinnerbaits if the water is muddy.

As far as locating fish, I do the exact opposite of Aint Texan.  I like to look shallow.  The fish definately bunch up like Aint Texan said, but my preference is to fish a laydown or shallow patch of reeds rather than a deep brushpile or ledges and other deeper cover.

I like big jigs and lipless crankbaits for muddy and clear water after rain.  Dont count out topwater either, but seeing as your in jersey, I would think it would still be a bit chilly for them.

Hope this helps and good luck.  You will love that All-Terrain.  It's a hard nosed motor
