changing lake levels

Featured Replies

How do you cope with changing lake levels when trying to catch bass?  We have been getting a lot of rain and everytime it rains they open up the gates on the dam and drop the level within days?

When lake levels rise, it creates a new buffet on the newly flooded vegitation that is now submerged.     When the gates open, it creates current, and current positions fish for feeding.

On mainlake areas, key in on the long underwater points and similar areas.   If you have newly flooded vegitation, you could toss some search baits such as a spinnerbait or pitch or flip to the bank until you key in on what the fish are holding to.

Some time lakes are down for long periods of time, and a big rise can creat a new lake, and the way it once was fishing changes with the new face lift it recieves.

Also remember to go check out all of the bottom features of the lake when the level drops, take pictures, even mark unknown structure and cover on a gps if you  have one.
