O.K. so back to my farm pond situation that some of you helped me out with before. The other day I went out during the hottest part of the day and threw a firetiger spinnerbait with two colorado blades and had tremendous success. The next day went out at about the same time, same lure, same success. Then the next day I went out same lure, no success. Is this because the bass that were in this spot are not hitting yet after being caught, just not a good day for it, the bass are getting used to my lure, or i just need to give it a day or two before trying again. I know that fish can want something different from day to day, but on days that they dont want my spinnerbait what would be a goold alternative? Pond Info: 8 ft. deep, muddy, largr rocks where the bass were being caught, a lot of blue gill!!!

Perhaps they are beginning to get conditioned to the lure.  Perhaps they moved.  Perhaps the barometer changed.  Perhaps the light or water clarity changed.

Coul dbe a number of things.

Did you:   Try any different lures?  Catch fish at another area with the same or different lure?

As my fishing buddy always says, "don't throw what they bit on yesterday - throw what they're bitin today".  You have got to change up from time to time, but don't leave that spinner bug at home, just mix it in with some other lures.

I would bet the fish are becoming conditioned to the lure.  I fish a very small pond in my community A LOT.  If I get a new lure that I think is cool and I take it to the pond a lot of the time I can hammer them for two or three days.  However, then all of a sudden its like nothing.  Seems to take a good 2-3 weeks for them to hit consistently again if I really weared them out for a couple of days.

I had a similar situation with a pond in a local park - I called it my test pond and would always try out any new lures there -- this was where I learned to throw buzz baits, sweet beavers, and became more confident with Senko's.  The key was alway changing up.  And, by the way, if you are not sure there are any fish in the pond, just try thowing a GULP! - if they are there they will bite it.
