Spinnerbaits and Jigs

Featured Replies

After watching the classic for the past three days the baitmonkey came back after I realized that my spinnerbait collection and my jig collection are very poor. What spinnerbaits and jigs do u guys used for stained water?

I'm a "hugh" fan of spinnerbaits. It's not a color question with stained water, but vibration. The darker the water, the slower you want your bait to be moving to keep it in the strike-zone longer, and also cover. I love to throw big, gold #8 Indiana blades in stained water on 1/2 -3/4 oz. spinnerbaits. It''s quite enough not to spook them, but it also lets them know "something" is there and need to be looked at. I use smelly jelly as a deal maker and a 3/0 "red" trailer hook for when it gets close. As far as jigs, I love a big jig with rattles worked slow through the worst tangles and mess you can find. If your not getting hung up and loosing a few, your not fishing in the right places... I hope this helps you out...

95% of my spinnerbait fishing is done with a War Eagle Screamin' Eagle. It is my favorite spinnerbait and functions well in a variety of fishing situations. Works the entire water column well.

I will use other versions as conditions dictate. One of my favorites (that I'm down to only 2 of) is the old Ledgebuster spinnerbait. I have an 1.5 oz. and a 1 oz. These work great in stained water in the 15-25 ft. zone, especially when you're tired of slinging DD-22's and Fat Free Shads all late-spring/summer long.

I have become a big fan of strike king's premiers spinnerbaits (about 6 bucks...). They come with a trailer hook and a portion of the skirt is a bit longer so you don't need a trailer.

As far as jigs, I have fallen in love with the original rattlebacks.  Good looking colors and the rattles are positioned so that you can get a trailer on without totally screwing it up.

My favorite spinnerbait is the terminator t-1.  There a little on the expensive side but they run true and catch fish.

Favorite flipping jig by far is the Lunker lure orginal rattleback.  Can't beat it.
