Pond fishing in late March.  Tactics for no visible cover and cold temps.

Featured Replies

Hey guys.  I have a nice 2 acre or so, maybe a bit bigger pond near me.  It's on the campus of a college.  I've fished it the past couple springs and summers and usually pull a fair amount of smaller bass out of it in the warmer months.  I usually use 6 lb line and various grubs and 4" worms on jigheads rigged on light spinning tackle.  The problem with the pond though is that there isn't any visible structure or cover.  There is a large walkway/bridge that runs across the middle of it about 15 feet off the water with 2 large concrete pylons holding it up.  One side has a gazebo about 6 feet or so out into the water which has a large drain under it that the water flows over and into.  Other than that it is pretty bare and I usually just cast parallel to the banks when the weather is warm and there is some vegetation in the water.  With the cold temps here in Ohio although warming up more and more every week,  I fished a flipping jig very slowly last week with no success.  With no boat and LCD, I don't know where to concentrate my efforts or what to use with the spawn still a month or maybe more away.
