When a river comes up does it push enough fish up into the creeks that feed it, to make those creeks worth fishing?

In the past, I used to live next to a large river.  When it flooded, the crrek coming in next to it was awesome for catching fish even with the water muddy.  I have had several 100+ fish days like this due to white bass, striper, and sauger coming up into the creek mouth to feed.  They hit as fast as you could cast your lure back out.  Crazy!!!
