pond fishing

Featured Replies

i got a pond near my house.  i dont know where to start.  the pond has no cover for the fish besides about 30 feet of boards and pilons on the bank.  everywhere else is rocks to prevent erosion along the bank.  i think it geys about as deep as 7 or 8 feet.   the water ids preety clear to.  what should i throw???????

Well, with the rocks there, all I have to say is throw a shakey head jig with a zoom finesse worm. I have caught plenty of bass off of rocks along the bank using a shakey head. ;)

I would start by fishing the cover that looks good. Since you don't know this pond, I'd also cover a lot of water and fish it frequently until it opens up some of its secrets. I'd use a variety of lures, at any given time using whatever seems appropriate for the weather, water temp, prevalent cover, etc. Nothing like "on the job training", so to speak.
