River drop shotting

Featured Replies

I've been thinking of trying drop shotting from a canoe on the James river here through Richmond an in some of the upper stretches.

I'm wondering though is there a "cut off" current strength limit for this technique or are there changes you can make to your weight and setup to adjust?

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated, thanks.

You should have some success.  I think the current would generate enough action to your bait to get some bites.

I use a drop shot rig on the Alabama river with a lot of luck. Just make sure that you use enough weight to make it to the bottom.

Good luck!!!

I dropshot most of my time at the colorado river, I have a one man pontoon and the biggest challenge is to keep my position, I do have a 5lb stel block I use as an anchor to help me stay in place. I always stay close to the bank and cast towards it, you should be able to do he same I would think and catch fish.
