where i live there are very few shad and there no bigger than 3 inches. what other types of bait fish do bass eat if there isn't any shad or shiners? :-?

First off, fish don't fead, they feed ;D If there's some shad, there's usually a bunch. They school up and the bass go crazy. Otherwise it can be bluegill, minnows, perch, etc.
