Trying to figure out if there is bass in this pond

Featured Replies

I found a pond down the road from me that isnt on anyone's property.. I don't think.. but is there a way to find out if there is bass in there? With out fishing it, because the season for us up here is closed. There are a lot of minnows in the pond, couldn't tell what they were, they were to small.

The obvious thing is to ask around, including tackle dealers. On the other hand, if this is a little-known pond, you could be attracting attention to it. Unless this is a well-known pond, I'd bide my time and start fishing it when the season opens.

Hey Zara,

Here is what I do.

I get some white bread from the grocery store and throw some slices in the pond.

If I see bream hit the bread then my hopes of having bass in the pond are heightened.

If nothing hits the bread I forget the pond.

So far this has worked for me.  :)
