Winter sign has been torn down ... spring sign put up

Featured Replies

Last Wednesday (March 24th) I hit my favorite small lake around 3ish. My favorite spot on the lake (most of the year) is the grass flats in the back but during the winter, they migrate into deeper water so I stuck to working points and stick-ups on deeper banks most of the afternoon.

It was 66 degrees, partly cloudy and water temp in the mid-50's and after pulling only 2 dinks all afternoon, I decided to cruise on back to the flats and see if there was any activity yet.

Glad I did! At 5:30 EVERY fish on the flats busted top. I mean literally exploded with some of them just about clearing the surface. During warmer months, there's an above average amount of topwater pops vs. other lakes but only at dawn and dusk and NOTHING like this. Literally 100+ bowling ball drops between 5:30-7:30.

I was gonna' call my buddy who was fishing another part of the lake if I counted more than a dozen pops but the 20 count happened in just a few moments and he called me first with a "what the &$%!& is going on back there!?" To which I replied "Chaos!"

In fact, several of the golfers bordering the flats even stopped to watch the underwater fireworks show.

It was as if some 20 year old bass hobbled up to some old stump, peeled away the "Winter" sign and slapped the "Spring" sign up!

Thank God it's here. I can finally put the jigs away and breakout the buzzbait for awhile!

busted! at least give me credit for the imagery. ;)

Looking forward to getting back out there with you and ripping some buzzbaits!
