Have used this just once for about 10-15 minutes from shore. Hard to tell, but it didn't seem to be getting down to that 1' depth like Baby 1- does, it looked like just a few inches.

Obviously I need to use it more, but just based on the one use it looks like it would be more usable as a wake bait than as a shallow crank.

What are the observations and thoughts of those who have used it?

i've used mine a good part of two trips now, and i've noticed that it definitley does not go down to 1 foot.

on a normal retrieve speed, it will go down a few inches, like 6" or less.

today i did some serious burning with this bait and managed to strike the bottom of some shallow spots, that were probably 1 foot deep.

definitley more of a wake/bulge bait than a diver.

i still think it will be KILLER later in the season

if you want a shallow diver, you would want to try the rapala DT FAT 03.

its small in comparison to the 01, but its still a pretty good sized bait.

its got a square lip like the 01, but it dives to 3 feet. and this one actually does get down to 3 feet on a normal retrieve.

you can also crank it in slow and have it run about 1 foot deep.

its a much more versatile crank than the 01.

i picked up a few DT fat 03s last time i was up at Gander Mountain... i can't wait to get those suckers in the water

I've never used the DT Fat 01, but, I can definitely vouch for the DT Fat 3.  That sucker has caught me quite a few nice bass...and pickerel.  I like the Firetiger and the craw colors.  Like they said, you can fish this slow and it will dive about a foot, or really crank it and it will stay at 3 feet.  Awesome lure either way.

Actually the picture of the Bass in my Avitar was caught on a DT FAT3 Firetiger...she weighed in at a little over 5lbs.

If you are not already using a fluorocarbon line, because this line sinks, using it can help to get that bait down to where you want it

I know what you mean, the DT3 flat is pretty big, that is why I don't like it too much. I wish it was as big as the other DT's, such as the DT6
