Featured Replies

Both.  I have had excellent sucess using both techniques.

Rapala has a number of lures with the Shad Rap name. All I've used are the original balsa, no-rattle Shad Raps, both the shallow and deep-diving versions. I've never used them as jerkbaits, but they're outstanding cranks.

Ive had my best luck using them as a crankbait.  An SR5 is killer in the spring on Percy Priest here in Nashville.

Shad Raps.

Number SR-5.

Silver with blue back.

Silver with black back.

I caught 9 today at Buggs Island with silver with blue back.  Lost three.

Buddy caught 3 on silver with black back.

Use Palomar Knot and tie direct to bait's split ring or use a fast lock or inter-lock snap, no swivel, when using these lures.

A spinning rig with 6 pound test is best.  Use Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft line if possible.

Cast out, reel in.

Have pliers ready to remove hooks.  :D   :D   ;)

They are best used as crankbaits. One of the best subtle cranks around.
