topwaters! try a prop bait like a Rapala Skitter Prop or a classic black Jitterbug if the water is warm enough to make them active.

If the fish aren't active enough to hit topwaters, try something that displaces a lot of water, like a jig or double tail grub.

Black/blue chatterbaits. TRUST ME. This is a little-known secret of night bassin', both largies and smallies. I can't tell you how many times I've been night fishing, throwing everything at them, maybe getting one or two, then just catching fish non-stop with the black/blue chatterbait. The color is important too - needs to be dark.

Drag tubes sloooowly across the bottom. I use a rattle in mine at night. We do well in August around here using this method. We call it counting rocks!!!

Fishing at night for smallies...Nothing like it.I like to throw a buzzbait and a 1/2 0z black spinnerbait. In the summer, start fishing before midnight and fish till mourning.Fishing can be absolutely awesome.

I've had a great deal of success with jerkbaits actually. Just ripping a Husky Jerk back to the boat with unusual speed and hard jerks normally drives them nuts! It seems to get their attention and don't waste time finding it with all the water that moves as well as the noise.

I've also had good luck with tubes (w/ rattles) when the action slows.
