When it come to smallies on here and other sites,,pretty much it's the Tiny torpedo who gets the top water praise,,What about the Baby Torpedo,,,are you guys talking quantity over quality,,,I know smaller baits will get you more fish,,,,but I never hear of anyone using the Baby Torpedo,,,it's always the tiny one.  Is there a reason for that ?

Personally, I think the larger hard baits (of any type) are easier for the fish to pick out as a "fake". With that said, I've caught my share of smallies on larger baits, including the Baby Torpedo and other larger top water lures.

Seems like you have to catch them in a bit of a feeding frenzy to catch a large number of fish on larger baits... but it does happen. Still, the smaller baits are more consistent. I'm sure it has something to do with the size of their prey on a day to day basis.

It is hard to stop throwing a tiny when you are catching 5lb river smallies on it.  I actually got 4 cases of one color earlier this year.  That said.  I also got several Baby's to try. 

The only bigger prop style bait I'll throw is the "Crippled Killer". The big one in black is awesome, I think it doesn't get spotted as fake because it has props on the front and back. This probably makes more turbulence, thus making the bait harder to see.

Anyway, Tiny Torpedo's are the perfect size for smallies so I'll stick with them!

My favorite topwater prop bait is a Gilmore Jumper it is huge as big as a Super Spook, I have caught smallmouth on it all the way from Tn to Canada. There is no reason not to use a Baby Torpedo. It is 1/2 the size of a Jumper.

As I've stated in other posts... it's the baby sized torpedo that I throw most often on still waters around shorelines and weed beds.

I've done well for both kinds of bass on the baby torpedo, and it's heavy enough to throw on a baitcast reel when your fishing bucketmouths around cover. They both are must have lures IMO.

   I've only thrown the Baby Torpedo, but it really seems to large for most of the Smallies around here (odd, I know :-?). The only Smallie I've caught on one went 4lbs...... And the lure was big in his mouth, so I'd vote Tiny.

Maybe less likely to spook em with the smaller topwater
