New To Minnesota/north Dakota

Featured Replies

I just recently moved to Fargo, ND and was wondering what lures you guys toss up here. I am originally from Northern Illinois and most of my bass fishing experience has taken place there and Wisconsin.

I predominately throw spinner baits, plastics, and topwater, but I am recently starting to get into jigs and crankbaits. As far as color goes I usually go with white, white/chart, chart, and black spinner baits with different blade combinations. Mostly black buzzbaits and black/silver or firetiger rapalas and zara spooks. And a bunch of different color plastics.

I am guessing that these will all work up here, but I was just looking for some advice on what's hot in this area. Thanks a lot!

Where will you be fishing?

I tend to use the "standard" stuff, like you mentioned, but I'm quick to downsize my line and lures if the bite is slow. Some of these places have very clear water and lots of recreational traffic.

I'll mostly be fishing the Detroit Lakes area, but I am open to any suggestions around F/M.

Jimmy,

I have never been up and fished that area but, I hear a lot of good things about that water for multi species. I would imagine that the water has fairly good clarity, so I would think the same baits you have used in the past would work, and making color adjustments for the water clarity. If you are having trouble getting bit, you might try downsizing. On another note there are some great smallmouth waters in the northeast corner of SD, not too far from you. Roy Lake and Enemy swim. Give them a try if you get over that way.

I fished the Detroit lakes area in the past. Spent a week in that area on consecutive years fishing for bass. Like most MN lakes in that region and to the east most lakes hold bass. Even the primary walleye lakes can be good for bass.

The Minnesota Lake Finder offers lake information and a map. Although it has to be taken with a grain of salt the lake information along with the map is very useful. Link is:
