Another Dobyns Rod Post

The other day the bait monkey and I had a conversation that went something like this

Monkey "You should sell some of that old stuff you have laying around and get some newer stuff"

Me "I could Monkey, but the old stuff performs just fine and I kind of like my US Made All Star rods, and the buttery smooth round reels"

Monkey "Hmm, haven't you been killing it lately in the market, with some of the longer positions?"

Me "Yes, but don't know how much the ol'bull has left"

Monkey "Don't be greedy then, realize some profits, sell some of the older stuff and get some newer stuff that you like, plus they will match other competitors sales and ship faster"

Guess he convinced me cause I have a two day air package coming in from Tackle Warehouse, so out with the Vendetta and Big Boy All Star and in with a Dobyns Champion 735C w/full handle and a 734C w/full handle as well as load of terminal tackle and lures. Now the Monkey is off my back, its YOUR turn!

Your gonna love the Dobyns.....Just got my 734c....I was a die hard St.Croix guy....But really like the 734c

I have two already so these would be replacing the other rods, I rank Dobyns up there in feel and balance with my GLX and Custom Rods! Love them, maybe should make the entire rod selection Dobyns....

I've been using the 735 for a little while now. When I first got it I thought it was a bit stiff, but now I wouldn't trade it for anything! (except a DX 745)

I'm surprised they aren't more popular on here, though I think eventually they will catch on and be the new Loomis like they have on tackletour.

I think they're gaining popularity at a pretty good clip. Better than I thought they would actually, because many people, including myself sometimes, are really set in their ways when it comes to tackle choices. Also, it's hard to get people to buy an expensive rod based on internet spew when many of them can't actually go pick one up, put a reel on it, and swing it around a bit. That's about all it would take. Working out a deal with Cabela's sounds like just about the best thing that ever happened to the company because of the store's wide distribution.

Sometimes you have to just go out on a limb to find what you like. I'm really glad I did, they're the best feeling rods I've ever used. I used to be a Loomis/St. Croix guy until I picked up a used 766 for $150 in 2009. 8 more Dobyns followed soon after. The Champion 734 and 735 are especially hard to beat. I can fish 3/4 of my main presentations with these two rods. Spinnerbaits are my favorite lures to fish, and the 734 is so sweet of a rod to fish them with that I'm tempted to fish spinnerbaits more than I probably should.

x2

I bought my first Dobyns (a 734c) without ever handling one based on all the positive reviews I read on forums. I couldn't decide if it was internet hype or actually true so I had to decide for myself...and I'm very glad I did. You're going to love the rods. :D

The 734 is going to be my spinner bait rod, was debating a 733, but I have a custom IMX in that power and love it. Also the Vendetta I sold is close to the same action as the 734, the 735 will be pulling frog duty.
