I'm looking for a new cranking rod for medium to deep diving crankbaits. I'm partial to St. Croix rods and trying to decide between the LTBC70MHM "Big Cranker" and the LTBC710HM "Magnum Cranker". The Big Cranker is rated for 3/8 - 1oz lures, while the Magnum Cranker is rated for 1/2 - 1 3/8oz lures. I primarily want to use them for deep divers like the LC Flat CB D20 ,Spro Little John DD, and Rapala DT20. I'm a little concerned that that the Magnum Crank might be overkill. Does any have any experience or recommendations about these rods?

The Mag is never overkill for a 15+ foot bait. The Flat CB is enough to make me want a heavy, let alone a DT20.

I'm curious about the big cranker too, what is everyone using it for? I've been looking for a general all around reaction bait rod and considering the LTB big cranker. Since most other st croix rods feel heavier than rated I was concerned it may be too much rod for the mid depth cranks.

I really liked it for ripping traps...worked very well.

I use a Big Cranker for all of my mid-depth cranks, traps, spinnerbaits, and even some jerkbaits. It's my favorite crankbait rod.
