Low Water In The Glades

Featured Replies

Wow. Went out to Holiday last Thursday to pre-fish for a club tournament. I hadn't been out there for about three weeks. It was shocking how much the water had dropped. Almost got my big butt stuck in the south weir going west on the Alley before I had enough sense to know I wasn't going to get through. The entrances to the flats are pretty much all up and out of the water by a foot or two. In some places like the upper Fingers the bottom of the vegetation line is 2' above the water. I'm sure it's been this low before but not that I've seen.

What is interesting is to see what that bank structure, usually 2-3' under the water looks like when it's high and dry.

I hit that weir 2 weeks ago idleing through. Should rename post "No water in the Glades". I was out at the "Interceptor" off the Alley last week and saw some beautiful structure along the now dry canal banks that I marked for future reference. I have only been in S. Florida 13 years, never saw water this low. We need a tropical depression.....

fished lox tonight from 3-7 and it was a struggle pulling the boat out. i had to get out of the boat to push into the spillway area. talk about sketchy. there are at leat 12 gators there over 8 feet. it was still on and we crushed them. i guess that will be the last time i put in off of lee road.

i fished holiday saturday and it was super low. all of the cuts going south are totally dry. from one to the wier was dry. be careful when going passed the weir, it is only about a foot deep with huge boulders on both sides. i saw an fwc boat whack a rock hard trying to go through it. we had seventeen pounds and finished 3rd. saw a ton of big fish in the pads, but couldn't figure them out until it was too late.

No matter where in south Florida, trouble on the water can be just around the corner. Be careful in these low conditions and let someone know where you are going. Stuck on the mud is no fun.

Hey George, how's the fishing been at the Stick Marsh/Garcia?

I haven't seen you posting in a while.
