7.1 Too Fast For Swimbaits?

Featured Replies

I'm still looking for a Curado 300d or E but I have an extra Curado 200DHSV 7.1

Keep in mind I'm throwing mainly smaller baits, 6 inch Hudds and Mattlures Baby Bass, no mondo size baits... I feel a 200 size Curado D is no problem for this size bait but I realize this gear ratio hasn't been popular with swimbaiting.

Will this work well enough or should I bag the idea? I fish them fairly slowly anyway so I don;t see how this can hurt....a few more inches per turn doesn't seem like a lot to me.....

Help me out guys...thanks!

Seems to fast unless you burn them.

thats the exact reel i use for 6in huds and mattlures it works great just reel slower or move the rod insted

I used a 7.1:1 PQ with 6" Hudds,BBZ's and Mattlures. I had to force myself to sing "Row Row Row Your Boat", just to keep the cadence slow. It worked, the first day I did that I got 6 LM totaling 25.6lbs. I know it sounds goofy but it helps when you have a high speed reel.

I use a Curado 301E; picks up 28 inches of line per turn. Next time I'm out with those hudds, I'll try that out. Might just work for me. I'm not having much luck with the soft swimbaits lately.

I'll keep it to a whisper or my fishing partner might just push me out of the boat ;)

Ha. I'll try that though....

Think of the bait as being a dude that had a few too many beverages and is walking home. Slow, not so straight, bouncing off bushes, trees and weeds. Just sort of stumbling back to the boat.
