I was given a 15hp gamefisher motor and was told all it needs is a new carburetor. I dont know the year of the motor but here is the model number: 225581494 Serial number: 1174. Any information on this motor would be extremely helpful.

It's a Mercury. I would try to fix the carb. myself if I were you. Check this out. www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/parts/1477_50.cfm That link should bring you to a parts diagram blow up. You can also order parts if needed. Bet it just needs a good cleaning.

Should be a good motor. I have the 9.9 version. It is basically a Mercury like was previously said, based on the Force engines which Mercury bought out. Parts are still available new and there's also plenty of used parts on ebay. I think it's a 1992 model based on the model number. You can go to www.searspartsdirect.com and enter that model number on the "model number search" tab and pull up the parts diagrams.
