I am stuck on these two reels. I am looking for one that can toss baits in the 1-3 ounce range, meaning I would like to toss a crank bait, then switch to a big swim bait. Which of these two reels can do this the best. Which of these is more durable and likely to be around ten years from now still being used?

I have no experience with the Diawa, but you can throw anything you want with the Calcutta and if you clean & oil it every year or so, you can pass it down to your kids. Although I admit to being a member of the "Shimano posse", any reel that says "Calcutta" on the side is as close to bullet proof as you will get. JMHO

I got to use a Daiwa Pluton when I was on a charter fishing the flats in Key West. It's a heck of a reel. The reels they normally use for Tarpon and Snook are usually 400 series but this 200 series matches up to it with a much smaller profile. I had a great experience with it tossing MirrOlures. I can't vouch for it in Freshwater though but that was my experience with it.

I too am a shimano guy, but after seeing the Pluton and reading that these reels are tanks I was thinking it may be a better choice. The main thing is will it toss one ounce lures like the Calcutta 200te gt. I would think both reels should last a very long time.
