This thread is pretty old but I thought someone could benefit from the info.

Having lived in Korea from 2010-2011, I remember casting into my sink in my apartment when I didn't know where to fish and the bass bug was biting :D. Hopefully the info is still relevant. Here goes.

I lived in Siheung for a year right next to the Oido station and fished a local reservoir regularly. The place is called Ma Jeon Jeo Su Ji, or 마전저수지 in Korean. If you copy and paste it into google maps you should be able to find it on google earth. I used to ride my bike there and it would take about 30 mins and I'd smoke 2 cigs on the ride over during the downhill portions.

I did take a taxi twice with Korean friends and they dropped us off at the intersection where a tackle shop is. We also had this tackle shop call us a taxi for the ride back. Anyway, from there, its about a 10-15 min walk through under the freeway and up a dirt road. You'll pass an indoor fishing type of concrete pond but keep going up the path, I think it's just stocked carp in there.

Once you get to the spot, you'll see some random dogs walking around. I had one bark at me aggressively but besides that they've never bothered me. While your fishing, a worker will come by and collect the fishing fee from you, which was 5,000 won at the time, and give you a ticket for the day. The worker didn't speak English but you should be able to get your point across. I told him in Korean that I was Chinese American and didn't speak Korean well. It just happened that he was a Chinese immigrant so we just spoke Chinese to each other lol. So if you speak Chinese, you might be in luck.

You can fish anywhere except the penned off areas. If you want to fish the stocked trout, it's 20,000 won.

I'm not sure about the carp area though. I fished all around the lake but caught most of them during the spawn at the docks in the entrance. There's some 5+ lbers that you can see cruising around but I've never gotten them to bite. I did catch my biggest on a 3 inch senko clone in the furthest right or western area of the lake. It was a 3-4 lber that bit randomly. I've gotten maybe 2-3 fish from there. You should really focus on the docks at the entrance of the lake as they seem to congregate there, but there's fish generally holding in all the docks.

Lures that worked for me were purple texas rigged power worms, 3 & 4 inch senkos, small white jigs with small craw trailers, shakey headed robo worms, and I've also seen locals fishing hardbaits catch some big ones. White jig worked the best during the spawning times and you can literally see and catch a fish 6 feet in front of you if you have the patience. It took me 1.5 hours focusing on one fish.

All bass are catch release too, so don't try to keep any.

I'm sure I might be missing something so ask any questions that you might have. The fishing is not great, but I rarely left skunked after focusing on the docks at the entrance. I'd at least get 1-2 fish every session, and I'd go about once a week.

In case you're wondering, this is what a Korean largemouth looks like korean-bass1.jpg

yeah... its the same.

And this is what the entrance area looks like from a different angle. Its also what 1 guy trying to teach 3 others how to fish looks like.

Best of luck those fishing in Korea, feel free to ask me any questions on the spot if you have any.
