The "pond-Hopping" Boys

Featured Replies

Well, I almost got my three pond-hopping combos downb and ready to fish. I just need to get a reel for the Champion 735c, which will probably be a T3 Ballistic. Here we go:

Dobyns Savvy 734c - Zillion 100HSA - 50# braid

- Main Rage Tail rod, mostly for the moving presentations, such as the keel-weighted Eeliminator, swim-jigs, Rage Shads, etc. Will be used for bottom Rage Tailing in the mean-time.

Cumara CUC-72MH - Curado 50e - 14# Sunline Super FC Sniper

- Finesse stuff, smaller stuff, mainly plastics. This rod is perfect for Baby Thumpers

*** - Champion 735c - 50# braid

- Flippin', pitching, frogs, heavy plastics. I really like this rod, very versitile for a lot of different things. Reel is yet to be decided.

I'll post a better pic tommorow when I'm in ther right stae of mind.

Where is the Powell rod????

What's a Powell? :D

Nice lineup, but don't keel-weight an Eeliminator.

Really? I had an amazing morning with the eel today, keel-weighted. It's like a swimbait.

Why not?

I don't remember even making this topic last night...long night.

When you keel weight an Eel, you kill the side to side motion of the body part of the bait, so just the tail is doing it's thing. Sometimes that is enough, and if it works for ya, don't stop, but there are better baits for a keel rig, and better uses for your Eels.

It definitely does kill the action a little bit. It's kind of a finesse presentation. I like it.

What would you recommend for fishing it like a swimbait with a slow, steady retrieve?
