Few Painting Questions

Featured Replies

I've never tried making custom crankbaits or lures, not sure how hard they are so heres the questions.

How do you get that perfect honeycomb pattern painted on the lures?

How many work hours would it take to paint a lure?

Whats the easiest way to go about painting them?

Are there any guides on where to begin?.

to get the scales, ive seen people used mesh screen. Painting a lure depends on the pattern, and how many layers of paint is needed. a bluegill pattern will take much much longer than a shad pattern. I've recently started painting with spraycans but i know alot of people like to use airbrush. look around this forum as well as tackleunderground for tips.

How do you get that perfect honeycomb pattern painted on the lures?....minnow nets, mosquito nets, tule from fabric shop, etc.

How many work hours would it take to paint a lure? Depends on the pattern. If you already have the lure basecoated then you can paint some simple patterns in 10-15 minutes....or on the other end of that.....a high detailed bluegill pattern....45 minutes to an hour

Whats the easiest way to go about painting them?....airbrush/compressor setup is probably the easiest overall

Are there any guides on where to begin?.... Don't know of any off hand but, you can always do what I did. Go to tackleunderground.com and reasearch, look at pics, and use the search function for questions you may have. Just grab some old baits and start practicing
