i am a new fisher. right now i am using a 6'6" MH rod with a quantum baitcasting reel for everything.... but i think i would like to have at least a dedicated worm combo and a crankbait combo... i have been doing good with crankbaits with my current setup, butt not a single bite while using worms, so i thought i would look for a worm setup... i found this link:

anything else you could add?? what would be a good setup for worms, without spending a bunch?? or should i keep using my current setup for everything??

For crankbaits a good rod would be 7' MH Moderate Tip and a 5.0:1 Baitcast Reel

For worms a good rod would be 6'10" MH Fast Tip and a 6.2:1 Baitcast Reel

well, my current reel is geared at 6.2:1. So maybe i can use that one for worms, and get a 5.0:1 to use for crankbaits.... i would like to purchase just one rod and reel right now, and keep using my current rod for a while... so ill start looking for a 6'10" for worms...

so, whats the difference between fast tip and moderate tip?? i would like to learn how to worm fish, any advice??

My Jig & Worm rod is a BPS Extreme 6'6" MH Fast Tip, I love that rod especially since I got it half off. The reel on it is a Shimano Chromica 6.2:1 Reel which is also really nice. (Got it for half off too!)

My Crankbait rod is a Falcon BuCoo 6'6" M Moderate Tip, I just got it this month and it's decent. The reel is a Ardent C400 5.0:1 reel and it's a workhorse.

The difference between a fast tip and a moderate tip is that a the fast tip is stiffer and puts more pressure on the fish while the moderate tip has a lot more give to it.

When you fish with worms you usually use a big ewg hook and you need to keep pressure on the fish. With a crankbait you need to give that fish some slack so it doesn't spit out your lure.

Here is an example:

When I worm fish I use the texas rig most of time. My favorite worms are GYCB Senkos in the 4" Size. I use a 5/0 EWG hook and a 1/4 oz/ bullet weight.

thanx for the info! so i think ill get a 7' Medium Action Fast tip to use with my current reel for cranks, and i will get me another reel to use with my current 6'6" MH rod for worms...
