Anybody ever done this??? I was on the lake today and thought I was gonna throw watermelon red brush hogs by lillypads and let 'em just kinda fall. I rigged up with a smaller version o the brush hogs, and t-rigged it with an un-pegged 1/8oz bullet weight. 'bout two casts into my day I got bored and started tossin' these things out and swimmin' 'em back. I got two bass almost immediatly. What went on here??? did I just stumble onto the next big thing or was I just lucky?????

Not really lucky,just changing the presentation.Thats what you got to do sometimes.The weight you use also will determine the speed and or depth for this method.

Brush hog not my favorite for this I would prefer a rage craw or gambler flappin worm.Any plastic that flaps,flutters,swims could potentially work though.

I tried this once... now I have to take heart medication.

I sometimes just swim it back, i don't think one way is better than the other, just depends what gets it in front of the fish that day.

This is all I do. I swim my soft plastics, weightless. I cast right next to cover or shore, let it drop for like 3 to 5 seconds, then slow roll it for about 5 feet then burn it back to me and cast again. I always get the bite right when I start to retreive. The bass imo, see it hit the water, sparks up their attention, then as soon as it starts swimming away they slam it.

The only baits that I finesse or "work" on the bottom are jigs.

All my soft platics are casted out to cover or shore then reeled back to me in around 5-10 feet. If I dont get a hit close to when I start to retreive, then I try again.

I have a friend who fishes those on top without weight all of the time. He catches a lot of nice bass like that.

Try it with a big bite kriet krieture weighless or 1/8 ounce just to get it out there and see what happens. This is the only way I fish a brush hog except for the occasional carolina rig. The bait I mentioned has more action than a brush hog and hooks up a lot easier due to the ribbed body.
