Not to go too far OT, but....Up here, the water freezes almost instantly, as the line is reeled up. We use Pam or Chapstick on the guides so the icicles fall off easier. Braid is totally out of the question, as it freezes to itself. Yes, it's pretty silly to fish like this, but you do what you gotta do. :blink:

As to not destroy an original post...

Are these two methods the best you've found to help the ice build up? Do you do anything with the line guide going into the reel?

Do the northerners use the float-n-fly as much for a winter technique as they do down here in Tennessee?

*Side note.. man it depresses me to already be talking about winter and fishing in below freezing temps :(
