Abu Garcia Veritas Cranking Rod??

Featured Replies

Was curious to see if anybody has had the chance to fish this rod yet? If not has anybody played with this rod @ a tackle store? I'm wondering if this rod has decent flex to it or if it is too stiff. Any input would be nice, thanks.

I honestly dont know anything about the rod, but I read on another forum the reel seat is designed for rhe revo winch reel. Apparently the winch reel has a large reel foot so alot of reels dont fit properly in the reel seat. Shimano in particular has no reels that work with the rod. Again i know none of this first hand its just what ive read. Be cautious about what reel you pair it with especially if you have to order blindly over the internet like i do.

Unless there's been a change to the rod, you're correct, it is built to handle the Winch specifically, but I'm not aware that other brands of reels will not sit on the seat properly. I've fished a Zillion on the Veritas Crank stick with no issue, would assume that most other reels will fit. Pretty sure I had a Calais on one at some point, too.

Id imagine you can put other reels on it with no problems. That doesnt sound very smart to sell a rod that you have to buy a 200$ reel for. I dont think they would be able to sell many. Anyway i picked up the 7ft medium model at the store and it feels real nice has a ideal amount of flex IMO. I wish they would offer them with the micro guides tho. But i dont think you can beat it for that price its feels a heck of a lot better then the Skeet Reese rod which is around the same price.

Thanks for the replies guys, its funny that you would bring the skeet rod up because I was strongly considering buying that rod. I've never held a heavy action bass rod but when I picked up skeets micro version I was impressed with the lightness of it. Thanks once again

I remember an older post when they first came out and a guy had a Shimano Caenan on his. I'm pretty sure all other reels will work fine, maybe not as good as the winch but should be fine. Just as 614 Bass said it wouldn't have been very smart for Abu to make it were you have to buy a $200 reel and no others would work.

i have the 7' medium/moderate-fast veritas and have used revos, curados/citicas/chronarchs, zillions, etc. on it with no problems. the locking nut on those rods are bare aluminum and, when cranked down on your reel foot, can be hard to undo. the trick for mounting/unmounting a reel is to stand the rod on its butt end and push down on the reel while turning the locking nut. now, as far as the rod itself, i love it...just about perfect for 1/2-ounce lipless cranks and 3/8-ounce lipped cranks. i weighed mine and it comes in at 4.1 ounces...very light. i'm considering adding the veritas winch to my collection but i already have the dobyns 705cbmf and lamiglas 705R and think it may be superfluous.
