I am going to respect the site's bandwidth capabilities and try to keep it short and simple. First of all, search the fishing articles section for anything about jigs. Now after you have done that look at the body of water you are fishing, is it a lake or a river? What is the water temperature? what is the water clarity and color? what are the main types of cover and forage? what is the depth? What species of bass is dominant? After you know all of those facts then report back with your findings, but here is the crash course for now...

My favorite time of year to fish jigs is all year, I always have one tied on whether it be for flipping, pitching, casting, or swimming. My favorite all 'round jig that can be used for just about anything is a 3/8oz Black/blue Persuader jig with a black/blue ZOOM super chunk trailer. Most of the time I am pitching this jig to shallow, 8' FOW or less, cover like grass or laydowns. I fish it on a 7' Medium Heavy action Kistler rod with a Shimano Citica reel and 15lb Seaguar InvisX fluorocarbon line. When I pitch it in there I let it fall all the way to the bottom and let it sit for at least 15 seconds, then I pick it up and shake it in place, and then hop it once. Then I shake it again and give it another hop. Most of my strikes come when the jig is falling, which is characterized by a heavy feeling, a light thump, or your line moving sideways. However, a strike can come at any point during your retrieve so be ready to set the hook hard whenever you think there is a fish on. Good luck ;)

thank u sir but im fishing in a lake with fairly clear water u can see the bottom at about 3 and a half 4 feet the water temp is around 65 it is kinda greenish water because it is full of grass and the only real cover is all the grass on bottom docks and on one end there are patches of reeds about 10 ft off of the bank and some bullrushes and the depth where the boat is sitting when im fishing is usually around 8 or 9 feet.
