Opinions On Setup For Fl Backwaters

Featured Replies

I will be visting some relatives this Feb in Naples and will be doing alot of bass fishing and also some backwater fishing do you think it is safe to use my curado I will be bringing or should i just get a decent $50 spinning setup from BPS for the backwater salt I dont mind spending the money on the spinning setup if it will save me from having to strip my curado. Also whats the cheapest way to get a 7'2" rod down there shipping it by fedex or brining it on the plane. The way back wont be a problem as I can just have them drive it home in the spring when they come back to where I live. thanks

Use the Curado & buy a rod once you get to Naples

Ok, but should I use the rod in the salt? or would I have to completely strip it?

Salt on a rod is no big deal as long as you take time to wash the rod after each use. If its areally good rod then I would use a salt away spray just for insurance. I would not worry about the Curado, Shimano says its can be used in both fresh or salt. I have sent 7'-4" rods from Florida to Caifornia in a tube for around $20, 5#'s total weight. You may have an issue with weight if you can't find a cardboard tube.

I visit about 35 minutes north of Orlando. Fresh water only. Decided paying to ship rods back and forth was way too expensive. Visited a local mom and pop, and picked up 3 used rods for $100. Two Falcon Originals, 1 MH, 1 M and a custom rod. Left them there for future visits. Carry my reels with me. The Falcons have decent sensitivity. The custom will be used for moving baits because it doesn't.

Works for me because we try to visit every year. Not much money tied up for the few times each year I get to fish there. Course it means 3 more rods in my arsenal if I ever get the chance to retire there. :) :)
