Purchasing Custom Rods

Featured Replies

A couple months ago I was browsing websites on custom rod making, and stumbled across a list of custom rod builders and there websites. I thought I had bookmarked the page, but unfortunately haven't been able to find it again. I was wanting to purchase a rod or multiple rods from a "custom" rod builder, figuring if I found the right builder, I would get a better return on my investment as opposed to continuing to buy my rods from the typical main stream websites and manufacturers. Does anyone know where I can find a list of custom rod builders, that offer there prodcuts online?? I found a few links on rodbuilding.org, but it still requires a lot of sorting through links and pages that offer parts or other things im not interested in. Or if anyone has had success going through any specific rod builders and could refer me to them, i'd appreciate it!!

Try this: http://www.tackleworks.org/

It's a directory of custom rod builders broken down by state, as maintained by rodbuilding.org - the professional rod building website

I've heard some great things about Delaware Valley Tackle, and would love to see some of his work, as I too am thinking about another custom rod for my son, and would be willing to give him a try.

I can personally attest to the fine work that Matt Davis at Otterrods does. I have a sweet custom St. Croix 6'9" MLXF Legend Xtreme spinning rod that he built for me.

I will definitely check out Deleware Valley Tackle and the work Matt Davis does. I have sorted through a lot of the builders by state on rodbuilding.org, but living in KS, only had one person to contact. So i've pretty much accepted the fact i'll end up ordering by telephone or through a builders website from out of state....

I wouldn't worry about it to much if you can't contact a builder in person. Any great builder can work with you via email. I know Matt was awesome to work with, and I'm sure DVT is equally good.

DVT should really consider getting some pics of his work posted up on his site. It would be a big help to his business. I know Matt has "pages" of his builds on photobucket, and his pics are one of the reasons I went with him... liked his style. :D

Google JB Custom Rods and check out his website some. Great guy to deal with and he makes one heck of a rod. I have his "snake" rod and its scary sensative.
