What sharpener do most of you guys use for your jigs, spinnerbaits etc? Do any of you not sharpen your jig hooks and toss it when the hook dulls?

I use a stone style sharpener. IMO, the file style sharpeners are all but useless. The one i use is an Eagle Claw brand sharpener and it is a grey rectangle with a sandpaper-like texture. It works really well on any hooks, and you can sharpen them enough to hang on your fingernail. Unfortunantly, big sturdy jig hooks dont re-sharpen to well but you can at least fix a moderatly rolled point. If you are flipping in close with heavy braid, i dont think you should worry too much if your hook isnt absurdly sharp, but if your draggin a big football jig out deep, a super sharp hook can absolutely make a difference in hook-ups.

Same here. I use a 400 grit stone from a vertical hone. 3/8" square X 8" long, cut in half. It's small and easy to stash in the tackle box and will put a VERY sharp point on a hook. I sharpen almost all my hooks when they need it, some get sharpened right out of the package. Jigs, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, worm hooks, they all need a touch-up now and then.

I don't usually filet because I'm a catch-n-release guy, but it has smooth-stone hook sharpener on the back of the sheath with a groove in it - which I use often.

Hooks I don't (or rarely) sharpen: Gamakatsu, Owner

Hooks I sharpen: BPS-brand (not all of 'em, but most), other "off" brands

I will "toss" a hook if it just won't hold a point.

I won't sharpen a hook. Jst tie on a new one if it gets too dull. I do sharpen jig and spinnerbait hooks occasionally. It kind of rare for me to have a jig long enough for it to get dull; I tend to leave a lot of jigs stuck in rocks, wood, etc. I will shaerpen when though if I manage to keep it long enough. Ditto for spinnerbaits. They break, that's just the way it is, but I sharpen spinnerbait hooks more than jig hooks.

I use Gerber sharpener that looks like a pen; even has a pocket clip like a pen, and is about the same size. Twist the top ring and a diamond rod will extend. It's round with one flattened side, with a fine diamond grit. This thing has worked very nicely for better than a decade. It may last another decade of I don't drop it in a lake.

I use an ordinary hook file like the one pictured.
