Matching/mixing Paint Colors

Featured Replies

I just started learning with my airbrush. Haven't even set anything down on any plugs. Just playing around with strokes, and getting the feel for the gun. I was wondering about matching colors. I was good with acrylic paintbrushing, but you could mix it in a little at a time on your paint surface and get what you wanted. I have a badger 150, not the best I guess but seems like it will do the job.

I'd just like to know everyones different techniques with this? Do you write down and measure it???

5 Drops chartruese- 2 drops brown - etc?

Eyeball it each time? Do you test it out in the gun or brush it out on a piece of substrate to see if it matches up well?

Also, when painting a lure, do you guys wait until it dries some before laying down your next layer? I'd understand if your using a wrap for scales and such that it should probably dry, but can you lay down stiffling or another color on top of wet paint?

I know these are all rookie questions... sorry guys

I always "heat set" the paint before the next coat, however laying down another color on wet paint could have some desirable effects on the out come of the bait. I mentioned heat set, that means to use a hair dryer to dry the paint before the next coat or color. As far as color mixing, yes, one drop of X + 2 drops of B, etc. Write it down and you'll know exactly how to mix it again for later use. Just my .02.
