Hi everyone,

I found a couple neat new little hidden away fishing spots on a local creek and since it's pretty early spring, the water is moving a little quicker than it will be in the summer. What sorts of lures work well with casting up stream from shore and letting it drift back downstream in colder water this time of year? NY law says you can't be fishing for walleye from March 15 until May, and trout opens in April so I have about a week or so left before I have to stop fishing the area just to try and avoid any hassle with anyone thinking I'm shooting for spawning walleye.

Any hints at all in terms of lures and techniques would be much appreciated.

Iv used smith wicks or like rapalas stick baits in general or good ole grubs on a ball head. What streams are u fishing in ny?

Tonawanda Creek and Ellicott Creek are close to school/work, and the Buffalo River is a short walk down the street from a friend's house downtown. Just looking to just do a little shore fishing before the weather gets kayak-ready for me to put the rack back on my car and start lugging that around to new places.

Favorite color grubs? I have a couple different colors and kinds but obviously if they start working I won't have a choice but to go expand my selection. (the fisherman's dilemma)

Grubs I always use either white or chartreuse mostly occasionally green with black flake.

Try a pumpkin mister twister 3" and 4" grub, also the green with the black line. Another good lure is a blue fox vibrax spinner in gold. These use to be the go to baits for smallies around black river and sandy creek in ny.
