Newport News Reservoir

Featured Replies

I have a tournament at the Newport News Reservoir this sunday and I was wondering if anyone has fished it within the last week or two. I went out about a week ago and got a few, missed a nice one on a jig. Water temp was 51-54, but with these past days being so nice and hot I have no idea what the temperature is of the water. Any advice? Thanks

They've been hitting soft plastics for me there. Worms, lizards. Weightless, too. Water temp was in the low 60s yesterday. Water also extremely clear in spots.

All have been caught in no more than 6' of water off of lay downs and bushes, and I've been on the rte 64 side.

I went out to NN res. today and yesterday and a BIG FAT nothing!  I saw them!  But, none at the end of my line.

Has anyone else been out there lately?

I also picked up some Z-man Popr Shadz to try out there as well.

I haven't been out in a few weeks, but NNPK and Harwood's Mill

have been productive, but nothing like in years past. I took my

boys and some little cousins to the docks at Harwood's Mill back

in August and we just fished simple long pole rigs out-catching

everyone nearby, LOL. Nightcrawlers killed it, including a nice

1.25# largie.

That said, I found dropshotting worked along with Ned back in

September. I did have a hoss on the line but lost it close to the

yak, so the girls are there. I think 3# was the biggest I landed

in Sep.

Two of my boys have taken to saltwater fishing over fresh and

have been absolutely slaying it with big trout, nice reds, croaker,

spots, mudtoads, bluefish, shrimp, striper. They love the greater

chance of catching variety, LOL.

Curiously, it has been years since Fish & Game have used copper

sulfate to tame the weeds. Unbelievable how much the weeds

have taken over.
