Brians Bees Prop Baits Vs. Lucky Craft Kelly J

Featured Replies

HELP! I originally figured I was not going to have to think about tossing a prop bait until May-ish...fact is, this weather's nuts, and I need to get on this.

It's tough to ignore the success anglers have had tossing prop baits to bass around bluegill/ bream.

So, the question stands, Brian's Bee prop bait or the LC Kelly J?

Opinions and experience would be appreciated!

Thanks,

JP

**EDIT!** If you know of anyone that hand crafts one you think is nasty good, that works too! ha

Brian's Bee - Know a guy who fished the FLW Cup on Ouachita last summer and he said the Brian's Bee was tied on most everybody's rod that was fishing that pattern, whether they had a competing sponsor product or not. It runs truer with better action than the Kelly J.

Good enough for me. You talkin' about Wheeler?

Thank you, I was strongly leaning towards Brian's Bee so that just did it. Now to find it somewhere in stock!

I have 2 of the Brian's Bees, very happy with it. I tend to do better with these baits when the water has a little color to it. I've never tried the Lucky Craft version.

Make sure you order some trebles for it as the Brian's Bee Prop doesn't come with hooks.

Yep - He was throwing it for much of his bite, too, along with a locally made bait - finished 13th. He's tried most of them. He yelled at me good when I bought a Kelly J's this spring :) Check the pic: Wheeler

And I, on the other hand, have had better Luck with the Kelly J. It makes more noise and leaves a heavier bubble trail than the Brians Bees, it's also a LOT easier to cast a distance in clear water. for a bait of roughly the same size.

I like Brian's fine, they're a good bait, no doubt about it, but I've had better luck with the Kelly J.

I also prefer to throw the Kelly J. It is also about half as much as the Brians and more readily available around here.

Thanks for the info guys I really appreciate it. My Brian's 3 will show up Wednesday in the mail. I will probably pick up a kelly j locally to experiment between the two.

I've never tossed prop baits much, but after hearing of the situational success over the past couple years I feel like it could fill an excellent niche for me, and I'm looking forward to getting after it.

Haha that's awesome. Yeah we're going with the Bee. I'm going to toss it on braid-copoly leader so casting distance shouldn't be a problem with the lighter lure.

...Definitely the Brian's Bees....I have watched him make those and

trust me they are quality and work perfectly right out of the box...

Big bass just love'em....I use them around piers and floats and big

girls will come up in 6-8 ft of water & kill'em...IMHO,no choice here...
