Question About Drop Shot Stuff

Featured Replies

hello~

I'm a newbie. :blob9:

I bought drop shot stuff last week.

bps pq 6.4:1, bps graphite rod 6.6ft MH

bps excell monofilament line 12lb

drop shot sinker (1/4oz, It looks like a ball)

zoom double ringer

wide gap hook (size 3)

My question is, what are some things I am missing.

Thank you very much and I am very sorry for my poor English.

You can get away with a baitcaster setup, but you really should get some finesse worms like Roboworm, Owner Shivertails, or equiv. You need dropshot hooks. I personally like using the Owner 5177 size #1 or #2 depending on the worm and you should get a drop shot weight with the special drop shot clips.

I can add to this a bit! It would not be a bad idea to get some fluorocarbon line ( like Seaguar Invizx ) in 6 or 8 lb. and some of the new VMC spin-shot hooks in size 1 or 2. Good luck.

Those hooks you bought are a little big, but you don't necessarily need to buy drop shot hooks. The majority of drop shotting is done with a 1/0 worm hook.

Fluorocarbon is a must when it comes to drop shotting...for me at least. Like mentioned, your hooks are not ideal for drop shotting either. I recommend getting some smaller hooks (1/0). For the hooks, stop by Bass Pro and get some Owner Mosquito hooks (http://www.basspro.com/Owner-Mosquito&153;-Hooks/product/30024/133072). These are by far my favorite and require very little pressure to hook up with a fish.

Going as heavy as you are, what type of cover are you fishing? The drop shot can certainly be fished in weeds and brush, with beefed up terminal tackle. But, if you have open water available to you, you should try more off-shore and deeper water. This will help you "learn" the technique easier. Again....I do not know what you are faced with, so it's difficult to give you suggestions for your particular situation.

I will tell you this, I have rarely used an off-set worm hook; unless I am fishing dense cover. No need, unless you are dealing with weeds or brush - which is not the norm, when considering the drop shot in the first place. Typically, a size #2 Gammy drop shot/split shot hook is plenty big enough for most LM & SM bass off shore, and even sometimes in shore. Good Luck!
